Day-release course could help Northampton firms fill skills gap

Roberto Pareccini hopes the HNC Building Services Engineering course, scheduled to start this September at Booth Lane, will prove popular with both workers and employers.

He is appealing to companies across Northamptonshire to encourage staff to sign up for the course on a ‘day release’ basis, giving them the opportunity to pick up new skills, which they can then put into practice

back in the workplace.

Mr Pareccini said: “I am looking forward to helping add to the skills of employees across the county. I started working as an apprentice myself and worked my way through the company to the point where I was managing 15 engineers.

“I have been on the journey and I am keen to pass on that experience to today’s workforce.

“In my career I have worked with many of the biggest names in engineering and the message from everyone has always been the same - companies want staff with broad skillsets and a good work ethic.”

Mr Pareccini said he will be focusing on encouraging students to work hard and constantly add to their repertoire of skills.

“I want to work with engineering companies across Northamptonshire and help train their staff, filling the skills gap that currently exists and preparing them for a lifetime in the trade.

“Whether it’s working on air conditioning units, refrigeration, hot water supplies to high-rise buildings or using lighting or electrical design software, I have been there and done it and I want others to have that opportunity too.”

Students would be able to study the new course on a one-day-a-week basis, coming into college for a full day before heading back into the workplace to put what they have learnt into practice in a ‘real-world’ environment.
