Hakamou - which is housed in the basement of a premises near the Abington Street entrance to the Grosvenor Centre - was popular with patrons for its large array of exotically named drinks and unashamedly cheesy music.

A statement on its Facebook page said: “Northamptonians and rum fans, it is with considerable sadness that we announce the closure of Northampton Hakamou after six-and-a-half fantastic years.

Ian Tompkins, head of security said: “I’ve had a blast. Met some fab customers (you know who you are), the staff are like family and I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed keeping you all safe.”
