A woman bravely tackled three knife-wielding burglars after returning residents disturbed a break-in at a property in Brixworth on Saturday night.

A friend of the village residents tried to stop the thieves escaping over a rear fence but saw they had knives. She tried to run off and suffered a cut on her arm and some damage to her clothing.

Detectives are appealing for information in their hunt for the three men in connection with theft of some jewellery and an offence of attempted GBH.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "Just after 7.30pm on Saturday, March 7, residents returned to a property in Damherst Piece and disturbed three males who made off from the back, over the rear fence.

"One of the friends of the residents who challenged them was pushed against the fence, saw the offenders had knives, tried to run and received a small cut on her arm and damage to her clothing.

"The offenders made off on foot in the direction of The Knoll. They were described as all in dark clothing with dark face coverings, one about 5ft 4in and the other two about 5ft 8in. Some jewellery was stolen
