Woman subjected to serious sexual assault after being grabbed by man in Northampton town centre

A young woman has been seriously sexually assaulted after she was grabbed by a man as she walked down a road in Northampton town centre.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault which happened in the early hours of this morning (Friday, April 15).

The incident happened between midnight and 3am in the Cheyne Walk area, when a 19-year-old woman was grabbed from behind by a man who then sexually assaulted her.

The offender is described as white and of medium build, more than 5ft 4in with pale skin, dark eyebrows and an Eastern European accent. He wore a dark-coloured scarf covering his lower face and a hoody with the hood up, tracksuit bottoms and black gloves, possibly leather.

Officers would like to hear from anybody who was in the area in the early hours of this morning and who saw anybody matching the description above to call Northamptonshire Police on 101.
