Wellingborough men charged with modern day slavery and drugs offences after police raids

Three men have been charged with modern day slavery and drugs offences after raids in Wellingborough yesterday (Tuesday, September 22).

The raids and arrests were the culmination of an 18-month investigation involving 20 officers and led by Northamptonshire Police's serious and organised crime team.

Micah Thomas, 31, of Butts Road, Wellingborough, and 26-year-old Marlie Ashby, of Green Street, Wollaston have been charged with modern day slavery offences and conspiracy to supply the Class A drugs heroin and cocaine.

Twvarnai Riviere, 19, of Kiln Way, Wellingborough, was also charged with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

DI Nick Cobley said: "This investigation has been a significant undertaking and was very complex in nature.

"These charges reflect the focus and dedication shown by officers over a sustained period of time and hopefully reinforce our continued commitment to pursing and tackling those who pose the most risk to our communities."

The three men appeared at Northampton Magistrates' Court today (Wednesday, September 23). The court heard how the men allegedly exploited and controlled people to deal significant amounts of drugs in areas of the Queensway estate.

They were remanded in custody and will appear at Northampton Crown Court on October 21.
