When the family went out to confront the men, one threatened Mr Khan with a knife.

The whole incident was caught on CCTV cameras on an opposite neighbour's home.

Mr Khan said: “I would usually be at work in the evenings, but Liverpool were playing and my children wanted to watch that with me so I decided to stay at home.

“At around 5.20pm a car pulled up outside our house on the opposite side of the road.

“A guy got out of the car and opened the bonnet, closed it, got back in the car and drove off.

“I didn’t really think anything of it but I told the kids to leave the blinds open even though they said I was paranoid.

“A few minutes later, my oldest son said to me that my car was being lifted up.

“I went to go outside but one of the men was blocking the front door so I couldn’t get out.

“We did all get out and I tried to fly kick the man. He then threatened us with a knife.

“The three off them got in the car and sped off.

“My son called the police while they were still there but the men had gone by the time the police got there.”

Mr Khan says himself and his family were left shaken, but unharmed. There was, however, damage caused to the car.

The family is now keen to find the culprits who tried to steal from them.

A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police said: “The incident happened in Pembroke Road at about 5.20pm on March 4 when three males lifted the victim’s car up in an attempt to get to his Toyota Prius’ catalytic converter.

“They also blocked the front door of the house to prevent the man from coming out while this was happening.

“One of the males then threatened the man with a knife before all three made off.”
