A thief stole a phone and tried to steal cash from the till of a tanning salon in Northampton town centre on Sunday (March 8).

CCTV footage shows the man walk into The Tanning Shop on Wellington Street as the staff member went upstairs at around 3.45pm.

He is seen trying to get into the till before taking the employee's iPhone 6S and running off - all while customers are using the sunbeds.

Shop manager Amy Wellington said: "My part-timer, Magdalena Wyszynska, had just gone upstairs to clean the sunbeds when he came in so he must have been watching from outside.

"He comes behind the till but can't really get in there so he just took the phone that was on the desk.

"Then as Magdalena was coming back down, she spotted him trying to get away."
