Vandal who damaged Northampton pub and then gave police his brother's details jailed

Richard Lambert, aged 24, was walked out of The Old Bank by a doorman at 11pm on Friday, March 11, after he became involved in an argument with a woman.

Northampton Crown Court heard Lambert and the woman fell as they were leaving the pub and the doorman’s walkie talkie also dropped to the floor.

Dominic Woolard, prosecuting, said Lambert picked up the radio and threw it a glass door panel, which then smashed.

Police were called out to the pub and Lambert was arrested and taken into custody.

In the police station he gave officers his brother’s name and date of birth and was released on bail the next morning.

Mr Wollard said Lambert was wanted by West Yorkshire Police for failing to attend court and, if he had given his correct personal details, he would not have been released on bail.

The court heard, three weeks later, Lambert was interviewed at his home address about the incident and he again gave his brother’s details.

The officer, who recognised him, then arrested him on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

Lambert, of Field Rose Square, Ecton Brook, Northampton, pleaded guilty to this offence at court as well as a criminal damage charge.

Recorder Graham Huston said Lambert had engaged in “drunken, loutish behaviour” and then made a “deliberate decision” to give false details to avoid prosecution.

Lambert was sentenced to two months in jail for the criminal damage and four months for perverting the course of justice, to be served consecutively.
