Uninsured driver lands £2,000 court bill and two-year ban over Mercedes shunt in Northampton

An uninsured driver with no licence landed a court bill of over £2,000 plus a two-year ban after failing to stop following a shunt in Northampton in 2019.
Magistrates heard Matthew Lee Barker, 48, was behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Astra when it collided with a Mercedes, causing damage to the other vehicle, in Towcester Road.

Hide AdBarker did not appear in person at Northampton Magistrates Court for the hearing on Monday.
The court heard Barker failed to stop after the collision, did not report the matter to police within the required period and did not give details to the Mercedes driver.
He was also driving without a valid UK licence and the vehicle had no MoT.
Magistrates fined him between £220 and £660 for five traffic offences plus a further £266 in court costs and a surcharge to fund victim services.
