Two men have been charged after police raided and shut down a known Northampton drugs den last week.

Officers executing a warrant also seized a quantity of Class A drugs during the dawn swoop on a property in Drayton Walk in the St David's district of the town after being alerted by concerned local residents.

Carl Alan Richardson, 49, and 21-year-old Jamie Hobbs were charged with drugs offences and will next appear at Northampton Crown Court next month.

Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant, Beth Curlett, said: “The property was identified as being the root cause of persistent problems and nuisance in the area involving drug dealing, drug use and anti-social behaviour.

“The response we have received from the local community in regards to the closure has been fantastic and I hope this order provides the residents with some assurance that those who deal drugs and cause distress to our communities because of it, will be dealt with robustly.

“We will continue to utilise every given opportunity to disrupt and robustly tackle those who cause such misery to our local communities.”

Police, working in conjunction with Northampton Partnership Homes and Northampton Borough Council, raided the property in the early hours of Wednesday morning (April 22) after complaints of drug dealing and anti-social behaviour.

Northampton Magistrates granted a closure order banning anybody from entering the property, which has now been boarded up.

Richardson and Hobbs, both of no fixed abode, are will next appear at Crown Court on May 22.

Three more men, aged between 19 and 50, were also arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
