Two break-ins on same Northampton street overnight as RSPCA charity shop targeted again

Two businesses on the same road were broken into last night as police confirm a spate of break-ins happened.

The RSPCA charity shop in Main Road, Duston was targeted for the second time in a matter of days and a small amount of cash was taken.

Charity boxes and cash were stolen from Café 50 after the culprit or culprits smashed the front window.

Both businesses have been devastated by the crimes and have been forced to close.

This is the second time in a week for the RSPCA as overnight on Saturday (February 22), the charity shop was broken into. Money and costume jewellery was taken.After the most recent break-in, Katie Perry, area retail manager for RSPCA, said: “We are devastated that the shop has been broken into again.

“They have not taken anything other than a very small amount of coins from a donation pot.

“As a result of them damaging the front door we are now unable to open this morning due to it being unsafe to enter the shop.

“We are now losing money that we need to look after the animals in our care.”

Jodie Turner, owner of Café 50, added: “The charity boxes we had in the café for Macmillian and Marie Curie are missing as well as a small amount of cash.

“That’s all I can see at the moment.

“They took the pain of glass off the front of the window to get in.

“I am unable to open this morning. I have to wait for forensics and I need to clean my kitchen. I don’t know who has been in there or what they have been touching.

“It’s so frustrating.”

A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police said: “We have a record of a break-in at a café on Main Road between 3pm yesterday and 9am today. The offender/s smashed a front window and stole cash and charity boxes.

“The RSPCA one happened between 5pm yesterday and 9am this morning. The window on the front door was smashed and cash was stolen."
