A Northampton man has appeared in court charged with allegedly beating a woman before attacking officers who came to arrest him.

Stephen Malin, of Melbourne House, was arrested on July 10 after police were called to reports of a woman being assaulted.

The 46-year-old appeared in Northampton Magistrates' Court today (July 21) charged with assault by beating as well as for obstructing one police officer in her duty and assaulting another.

He is also charged with criminal damage for allegedly spitting on the floor of the police van after he was arrested.

Malin pleaded not guilty and will appear at Magistrate's Court for trial on September 7.
