Thug who knocked out man in Northampton avoids being locked up

Connor Hannby, aged 20, attacked a man who was with a group of people who were walking through the town centre late on May 23 last year.

The court heard Hannby came out of a nearby property after a woman shouted out the window at the group for being too noisy.

Raglan Ashton, prosecuting, said Hannby began pushing and shoving a male member of the group and then punched him in the face, causing him to fall to the floor and hit his head on the kerb.

The victim was knocked unconscious and suffered a deep cut to the back of his head.

Mr Raglan said that, despite being first aid trained, Hannby walked away from the scene without checking on the man’s welfare.

The court heard the victim was still suffering from regular headaches as a result of the assault.

Hannby, who admitted he had some boxing training, pleaded guilty to a charge of wounding.

After hearing that Hannby was hoping to gain a place in the Royal Marines, Her Honour Judge Adrienne Lucking decided to give Hannby, of Wheatfield Road South, Headlands, Northampton, a sentence of six months’ detention, suspended for 11 months. He must also complete 150 hours unpaid work.
