Third overnight Northampton break-in confirmed as barbers targeted in separate attack

Another overnight break-in has been confirmed by police as a Northampton barbers has been targeted once again.

Staff at Gentleman’s Quarters in St James’ discovered this morning (February 26) that a window to the shop had been smashed.

The crime happened on the same night as two other break-ins in Main Road, Duston where an RSPCA charity shop and a cafe were broken into. Northamptonshire Police has confirmed that a man has been arrested in relation to the St James’ incident.

Jake Hillery, owner of Gentleman’s Quarters said: “This is the third time this has happened to the shop.

“It’s always the same window and they never steal anything because there's nothing there to steal.

“This time they did steal a camera and I think they got some money out of our charity pot.

“We’re playing in a charity football game for the homeless, which is what we had a charity pot for. That makes it worse.”

Jake also owns Conrads, a barber shop on St James’ Road and another Gentleman’s Quarters in Wellingborough.

His other Northampton shop has been broken into twice and his Wellingborough business once.

He added: “It’s annoying because it’s damaging the doors and windows that cost thousands of pounds to repair.

“When I heard this morning I wasn’t even angry because I’m just used to it now. The first time it happened I was really upset, but it’s happened five or six times now across my shops.”

The barber shop on Harlestone Road remains open for business despite the break-in.

Police recovered the camera stolen from the shop and arrested a 33-year-old man.

A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said: “This happened in Harlestone Road at about 2am this morning when the offender/s smashed a ground floor window and stole a camera and cash.

“A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this incident and remains in police custody. The items were also recovered.”
