Brazen thieves hitched up a caravan from a driveway in Northampton and towed it away late on Sunday night.

Detectives say the distinctive, German-built caravan was parked with its towbar facing the property in Collingwood Road.

Yet the thieves still managed to spirit it away sometime between 8pm on Sunday (September 13) and 12.30am on Monday when the shocked owner realised it was missing.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "The caravan was parked in between a gate and vehicle, with the tow bar pointing towards the house, and the offenders would have needed a vehicle to tow it from the area.

"The white caravan had a silvery/blue stripe running down the middle on both sides, and an outline of a blue bird with its wings spread on the front and the word Sudwind written above it.

"It has blue/grey bumpers on all four corners, tinted side windows and a safety hand rail fitted to the right of the door. The caravan is from Germany and inside all the sockets are two-pin, instead of the standard UK three-pin.

"Our officers would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the theft, who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area or who may have been offered the caravan for sale in unusual circumstances.
