Burglars ransacked a house and made off with a haul including jewellery in a Northamptonshire village.

Police say the break-in occurred in daylight and have issued a description of a man seen acting suspiciously in they area who they are keen to find.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "An offender or offenders smashed the glass of a rear door and gained access to the address in High Street, Hardingstone, between 8am and 2.30pm on Tuesday, March 3.

"Once inside, they made an untidy search and stole a number of items including jewellery, which were of sentimental value.

"We would like to speak to anyone who may have noticed a man who was seen acting suspiciously in the area the day before. He is described as white, in his mid-30s, of a slim build with fair wavy hair. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed this incident is asked to call Northamptonshire Police on 101 quoting reference number 20000121886.
