The owner of a shop in Northampton town centre is hoping to track down the thief who brazenly stole an employee's bicycle from outside the business.

CCTV footage shows a man pick up the black bike from outside The Zipyard on St Giles Street and walk off at around 4.55pm on Friday (March 6).

The bicycle had a lock on one wheel but was not tied to anything - shop owner Ian Tarvit says they have not had any issues before.

"If something doesn't belong to you then you can't just take it," he said.

"I'm old-school unfortunately and things don't have to be nailed down but there are some scummy people out there."

The footage from The Zipyard's camera facing out of the window shows the thief walk across St Giles Street and back before taking the bicycle.

The seamstress who owns the bike, worth roughly £300, relied on it for her transport so now has to walk to work.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
