Thief rides off on stolen £1,000 bike during busy Saturday afternoon in Northampton town centre

A cheeky thief rode off on a bike worth £1,000 after stealing it from a town centre cycle rack in the middle of a busy on Saturday afternoon.

The black Trek bike was secured to the rack in Northampton when it was taken between 3pm and 4pm on July 4.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "The bike, a distinctive Trek model with bright green on the inside of the wheels, was secured to the rack at the bottom of Abington Street, near Mercers Row.

"Our detectives would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the bike being taken, or who may have been offered a bike like it for sale since the weekend.

"If there are any witnesses, or anyone with information, please call the police on 101 using incident number 20000341110. Alternatively, if you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
