A 19-year-old is seriously injured in hospital after being brutally stabbed twice near Northampton Racecourse last night (Monday).

Northamptonshire Police believe the attacker may have been as young as 16.

Officers from the Armed Response Dog Section teams gave life-saving first aid to the victim before paramedics arrived at around 9.30pm in Bailiff Street.

Detectives have launched an urgent appeal for witnesses after the attacker fled on a pushbike.

A spokesman for the Force said: "Detectives are investigating a serious assault on a 19-year-old man.

"At around 9.30pm last night (Monday, March 29) the victim was attacked and stabbed twice in Bailiff Street, close to the Racecourse, by a younger teenager who then fled on a bicycle.

"The victim was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition."

Officers say the suspect is described as white, aged 16-17 and of medium build. He wore a black hooded jacket, blue tracksuit bottoms, and a surgical-type mask.

He also carried a rucksack and was seen riding a white bicycle.

Anyone who saw the attack or has information about it is asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
