Stunned police bagged a £30,000 BOGOF deal after stopping a driver for having no insurance and no licence at the weekend.

Rather than walk home after having his £20,000 Audi A6 seized, the offender called a friend to come and pick him up.

Only problem was the 'rescuer' also had no insurance for the Vauxhall Insignia he arrived in — so BOTH cars were towed away.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire's Safer Roads Team said: "Our officers stopped an Audi A6 at the Shell garage in Towcester after ANPR alerted them to it not being insured.

"The driver called his friend to come and collect him as we were seizing his vehicle — but when his friend arrived we checked that vehicle, a Vauxhall Insignia, and that also had no insurance.

"We then waited for the third vehicle who picked both parties up, and that was insured!

"We'd certainly like to offer some advice to anyone thinking about driving off in a car when they are not insured or don't have a licence.

"First, if you’re stopped we will seize your vehicle. And secondly, if you call a friend to collect you who doesn’t have insurance either, we will seize theirs too!

"It certainly makes our job easier when offenders come to us!"
