Shoplifter jailed after 32 raids on one Northampton shop netted alcohol and confectionery worth nearly £5,000

One of Northampton’s most prolific shoplifters is behind bars after racking up hauls worth nearly £5,000 in 32 visits to the same convenience store.

According to court documents, 24-year-old Darius-Daniel Stirb targeted a local One Stop store repeatedly between November 26, 2025, and February 18 stealing goods including alcohol and bottles of wine, confectionery, toiletries and laundry products in large quantities. His biggest takeaway totalled £389.74 two days before Christmas.

The serial thief committed 29 of his offences in a 45-day period from January 5 and on four occasions he stole from the shop twice on the same day.

Stirb, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to all 32 theft offences involving goods worth a total of £4,907.44 at a hearing at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on March 5. He was sentenced to a total of 50 weeks in prison after justices ruled “the offences are so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified” and “because the defendant has a flagrant disregard for court orders and a flagrant disregard for people and their property.”

Stirb was also ordered to pay a total of £4,582.05 in compensation.

Northamptonshire Police says it is working to tackle retail crime and anti-social behaviour that affects businesses and the wider public. A spokesman added: “Retail crime is far from a victimless offence. Every theft leaves a mark on workers and undermines the sense of safety in our communities. We are dedicated to supporting our retail sector and want the public to know we take these crimes seriously.”
