Safe stolen as charity shop in busy Northampton street broken into overnight

A charity shop in a busy Northampton street was burgled last night leaving staff feeling ‘sad’ and 'disappointed'.
Workbridge in Bedford Road was broken into overnight after the shop closed last night (March 12) and before it opened this morning (March 13).

Hide AdStaff discovered the back window was smashed and that a safe containing the shop’s takings had been stolen.
As a result of the break-in the shop has had to close today.
A spokeswoman for Workbridge said: “We discovered it this morning. It happened sometime after we closed last night and before we opened today.
“They broke in and got in through the back window and stole our takings. There was cash in the safe and they took the whole safe.

Hide Ad“We have had to close today as we need to secure the area and help the police.
“We’re really sad. We’ve heard of other local charity shops being targeted and it’s horrible to think someone could do that.”
The charity shop, which raises funds to create a vocational pathway for people with mental illness, learning disabilities or brain injuries will reopen tomorrow Saturday (March 14).
A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police said: “This burglary happened in Bedford Road sometime between 4pm on March 12 and 8.10am this morning (March 13), when the unknown offender or offenders entered the store by smashing a back window.
“Once inside they stole a safe, tools, and a cash tin.”
