Police crashed an off-road motorcycle meet in fields on the outskirts of Northampton with bikers travelling from up to 70 miles away .

Officers from the North and East Neighbourhood teams issued Covid fines to six riders after disrupting the meet on land behind Lodge Farm Industrial Estate.

A spokesman for the teams: "Some of the people who were issued fines,thought it was a good idea to travel to Northampton from Leicester and Wolverhampton.

"They also thought it was a good idea to bring their children along for the ride."

Tier Four regulations in Northampton mean people should only leave home for a few essential reasons such as work, shopping or to get medical help.

Those travelling between Tier Four areas must have a legally permitted reason to leave home.

Those ignoring that rule or meeting up with more than one other person they do not live with can be fined £200.

Police revealed they issued 150 Covid fines on New Year's Eve as hundreds ignored the restrictions imposed in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus.
