Racist Kettering thug locked up after attacking paramedic and police

A thug who attacked a paramedic before yelling racist abuse and punching a police officer has been jailed.

Gary Fox admitted nine charges - including four of assaulting an emergency worker and one which was racially-aggravated - after his abhorrent actions last summer.

The 54-year-old found himself before magistrates this month after being arrested twice in a week over separate incidents in Rothwell and Desborough.

Northampton Magistrates' Court heard the 54-year-old, of Highfield Crescent on Kettering's Highfield estate, went into Thai Garden in Rothwell's Market Hill on July 22.

But when he was told he couldn't sit in for his meal as it was takeaway only he became angry, swearing and shouting at staff, before pushing one worker and hitting another on the shoulder.

Police were called and when they took Fox into custody he made vile racist comments to them, a force spokesman said.

Fox was bailed, but found himself in trouble again just six days later on July 28.

He was being treated by paramedics in Dunkirk Avenue, Desborough, when he assaulted one of them, causing police to be called.

Once he arrived at Kettering General Hospital's A&E department he was being wheeled along and grabbed a police officer’s wrists, causing scratches.

He then started yelling racist abuse before lashing out again and punching another officer to the chest, hitting his body-worn video camera.

Fox also assaulted an ambulance supervisor and ambulance technician at the Rothwell Road hospital.

The thug later admitted four counts of assaulting an emergency worker, one racially-aggravated assault, two assaults and two racially-aggravated public order offences.

Magistrates jailed him for a total of 18 weeks and told him to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £128.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: “Gary Fox’s behaviour on both of these days was abhorrent and he should feel deeply ashamed for attacking members of the emergency services and making vile and racist comments towards them.

“The emergency services go to work to protect and help people.

"Being assaulted will never be considered as ‘part of the job’ and we will always pursue people who put their safety at risk.”
