'Prolific' Wellingborough burglar who stole mountain bike to make his getaway sent to jail

A thief has been sentenced to two years and four months in prison after he burgled a house in Wellingborough.

The incident happened on April 28, 2020, in the Redwell area of Wellingborough, when homeless Robert Moore, 47, entered the family’s home via the back door, and stole £500 in coins from a money jar.

He then took one of the family’s mountain bicycles which used to escape from the scene.

At Northampton Crown Court yesterday (May 5) Moore pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced to two years and four months in prison.

Lead Investigator, DS Debbie Howes, from Northamptonshire Police’s Burglary Team North, said: “This is another fantastic result for the burglary team, especially as we were able to reunite some of the stolen items back to with their rightful owners.

“Robert Moore is now one more prolific burglar behind bars and therefore one less on the streets of Northamptonshire, blighting the lives and homes of hardworking people.

“Tackling burglary is, and will remain, a priority for this Force, and we continue to be relentless in arresting burglars and bringing them to justice.”
