Police shut down Northampton house party as lockdown rules are broken

A house party in Northampton has been shut down by police as its attendees were breaking lockdown rules.

Two PCSOs visited an address in Penrhyn Road in Far Cotton today (April 19) after receiving a report of a gathering that was breaking the social distancing rules put in place in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Officers spoke to the occupier of the house, but they refused to call off the party.

Further officers were then called as back up to shut the gathering down.

Posting about the incident on its Facebook page, Northampton Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "PCSOs Wood & Parris attended a report of a house party today on Penrhyn Rd, Far Cotton.

"The occupier unfortunately refused to disband the gathering, leading to the deployment of further officers in order to shut down the party, #HappyBirthday £60 fine coming in the post. #covid19 #northantstogether #stayhomesavelives."
