Officers from Northamptonshire's crack Armed Response Vehicle team tackled the blue 3 Series at around 10.45 after being alerted that it may have been carrying false number plates.

The driver failed to stop and collided with a Peugeot 308 on the A45 before crashing and running away.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "A blue BMW 3 Series, believed to be on false plates, failed to stop for officers.

"It was eventually stopped on the A45 eastbound near Crow Lane but not before having a collision with a member of the public in a Peugeot 308. Thankfully, the driver of the Peugeot suffered minor injuries only."

"The occupants of the BMW — believed to be two white males in baseball caps — decamped and we are tracking them."

Northamptonshire Police Serious Collisions Unit issued an appeal for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the area to call 101.

A spokesman said: "The BMW collided with a member of the public at high speed before the occupants ran off — that could have been you! Tell us who was driving!"
