Police have an issued an urgent appeal to find the driver of a light-blue car .. so they can say a big thank you.

Officers on the beat in Finedon were keen to track down a motorist for failing to stop early on Thursday morning (March 12).

But before they could call for back up with some wheels, a public-spirited citizen pulled over to give them a lift.

Even without blues 'n twos, they managed to head off the suspect and get their man.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "Our officers were chasing a man for fail to stop offences.

"They knew where he was going but didn't have a vehicle to hand. However, a woman in a light-blue car stopped and drove the officers to the location.

"This allowed our officers to get ahead of the offender and be ready and waiting when he eventually arrived."

Attention has now been turned to the hunt for the mystery woman.

Chief Inspector Kevin Mulligan tweeted: "We'd love to know who 'Blue Car Lady' is so we can recognise the outstanding support she gave our officers today.

"If you know who she is, please contact us so we can show our gratitude."
