Police are hunting a thief who snatched a woman's handbag as she walked along a Northampton street last night (Thursday).

Officers issued a description of a man they are keen to find after the attack on the 62-year-old woman in Victoria Road, which links Wellingborough Road and Billing Road close to the town centre.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "This incident happened between 6.10pm and 6.15pm on Thursday, March 5, when a man approached the 62-year-old woman from behind and snatched her handbag near to the junction with Harold Street.

"The offender is white and aged about 45-years-old, of a slim build and wearing a dark-coloured hooded top with the hood up. After taking the bag, he ran off down Harold Street towards Pytchley Street and Thenford Street.

"We would ask anyone with information or who may have seen this incident to please call Northamptonshire Police on 101 quoting reference number 20000126631."
