A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "The woman was walking her dog across Bradlaugh Fields between 7am and 8am on Wednesday, August 26 when two Alsatians ran over and attacked it.

"The woman tried to intervene and the owner of the Alsatians got hold of one of them before running off towards The Barn. The Cocker Spaniel was not injured.

"The owner of the two dogs is described as a 5ft 9in, stocky, 35-year-old white man with short fair hair, grey at the back, wearing a dark bomber jacket, black bottoms and trainers.

"We would like him or anyone who may know him, or who may witnessed this incident, to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101 using incident number 20000447119 — or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
