A community nurse says he had to endure a "bitter experience" on the job when a teenager verbally abused him and reportedly jumped on his car in a Northampton neighbourhood.

Sunil Mathew was in uniform and on-call with a colleague at a patient's house in Nether Jackson Court, in Blackthorn, at 11.30am on Thursday (May 7) when he was confronted by a youth on a scooter.

"I asked him if I could help him but he started throwing F-words at us.

"He then came back with his girlfriend and I asked him why he said that to me, but again he just kept swearing."

Sunil says he then took a photo of the youth on his phone - but this aggravated the teenager, who then reportedly walked on top of the nurse's car and allegedly threatened to throw stones at it.

"At the point, I called the police," said Sunil. "I thought he was going to punch me.

"I had to ask the wife of the patient we had come to see to watch the car while we were working.

"A lot of people have respect for healthcare workers but this was a very bitter experience. I didn't do anything to be sworn at like that.

"I have never come across this kind of act towards an NHS care worker in my entire career."
