Police were deployed to Northampton's St Andrew's Hospital this weekend after several staff were injured in an incident involving patients.

Officers were called to the Billing Road hospital at 8.30pm on Saturday November 14) after reports of disorder on a ward.

A group of staff members were assaulted by a group of patients.

Northamptonshire Police has confirmed it is now investigating the incidents as assaults.

" A group of staff members were assaulted by a group of patients. There were no life changing or life threatening injuries. We are investigating these incidents as assaults," a spokesperson said.

A spokesperson for St Andrew's Healthcare said: "We can confirm that police were called to our hospital on Saturday to help respond to an ongoing incident on one of our wards.

"Our staff do an amazing job in often very difficult and challenging circumstances, and in some situations it is necessary for the police to be involved in order to keep everyone safe.

"Those staff who were injured in the incident are now recovering at home and are being fully supported by the Charity, we wish them all a full and speedy recovery.”
