“Not gonna lie, it’s doing my nut in now”: Officers reveal reason why police plane and helicopter has been circling Northampton

A police plane and a helicopter has been spotted circling different parts of Northampton in the past week.

According to the Flight Radar app, the black and yellow plane had been doing loops of Northampton for hours on multiple days recently. Residents report seeing a helicopter doing similar.

Over the weekend, residents took to social media all asking the same thing: what’s it doing?

One person said: “What is that plane going round and round for over all of Northampton?”

Another said: “Not gonna lie, it’s doing my nut in now.”

One resident said: “Keeps coming over Delapre.”

Another added: “It’s the fixed-wing police plane. It can stay up longer than the police helicopter.”

One person said: “Just seen it in Abington.”

Another added: “Been a lot of activity in the sky the past couple of weeks. Still don’t know why the police helicopter was out for ages the other day.”

Another said: “It’s been up all afternoon – same with the helicopter yesterday. Not going to lie, I want to sleep and it’s driving me insane.”

One person added: “I live in the St James area and it’s been circling almost every day this week. Very odd, but I’m sure there’s a reason for it.”

In response, a Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: “We understand the plane, which is a National Police Air Service (NPAS) resource, was supporting an operation coordinated by the [Northants Police] Roads Policing Team. Once we have the results of this, we will publish a press release."

They added that they do not believe it is linked to any filming for Police Interceptors.
