Northampton police team check 178 vehicles as part of national campaign but only six caught speeding

A local police team checked more than 170 vehicles during a speeding operation yesterday afternoon (June 4).

Northampton Neighbourhood Policing Team visited Briar Hill, East Hunsbury and Brackmills as part of a national speed enforcement week.

The team checked 35 vehicles in Hunsbarrow Road, where two drivers were caught speeding.

One driver was given words of advice and another was issued with a fixed penalty notice.

In Penvale Road, a further 71 vehicles were checked, which resulted in two fixed penalty notices being handed out and two drivers being given words of advice.

Another 72 vehicles were checked in Caswell Road, but none of them were exceeding the speed limit.

The fastest recorded speed on this road was 28 miles per hour.

The team shared the results on its Facebook page with the hashtag #slowdownsavelives.
