Northampton man who broke ex-girlfriend's jaw given nine-month jail sentence

A Northampton man who fractured the jaw of his ex-girlfriend with a punch has been given a nine-month jail sentence.

Raphael Kennedy, aged 29, appeared at Northampton Crown Court after pleading guilty to a charge of causing grievous bodily harm.

The court heard Kennedy had become involved in an argument with his ex-girlfriend after they had returned from a wedding on September 14, 2014.

His Honour Judge Timothy Smith said the ex-girlfriend had slapped Kennedy and, in response, he had punched her once in the face.

Judge Smith said: “The consequences of that punch caused a fracture to the jaw in two places.

“Surgery was required and the jaw was plated.”

Judge Smith sentenced Kennedy, of Kirton Close, Blackthorn, to nine months in prison. However, due to the fact Kennedy has served the past six months in custody he is due to be released as only half of his prison sentence must be served in jail.
