Northampton man pays the price for trailing stolen JCB digger he bought for £400 hours before

A Northampton man who was caught driving without a license on the motorway while trailing a stolen JCB digger has been disqualified.

Scott Bruce, of Nene Drive, was pulled over near to J15 on the M1 near Northampton in November 2019 where officers found he was driving without insurance or a licence.

But more interesting to officers was the £18,000 JCB digger and trailer he was hauling behind him - which police discerned had been reported stolen.

Northampton Crown Court heard yesterday (January 5) how the 41-year-old claimed he had bought the digger for £400 "hours before" and planned to sell it on for a small profit.

He was charged with handling stolen goods.

He was also charged with driving without a licence or insurance. This comes after he has been previously convicted for 10 counts of having no insurance, four counts of having no licence, drink driving and driving while disqualified.

Her Honour Judge Rebecca Crane told the 41-year-old: "You clearly have no regard for road laws or other people's safety."

He was disqualified from driving for 11 months.
