'No update' in murder investigation over death of 74-year-old man in Roade last week

There have been no official updates in a murder inquiry launched over the death of a 74-year-old man in Northamptonshire last week.

Retired civil servant Ralph Baxter, 74, died while walking his dog in Roade on April 8, following an incident in the area of Hyde Road/Blisworth.

A 27-year-old Northampton man was arrested on suspicion of murder shortly after the incident, but was released on bail pending further inquiries on April 10.

Today (April 17), more than a week after the incident, Northamptonshire Police say they have no updates to report on the investigation.

At about 4.20pm April 8, police received reports of a 74-year-old man (Mr Baxter) having been assaulted in the area of Hyde Road/Blisworth Road in Roade, Northampton.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics and members of the public, he died a short time later.

Mr Baxter was a lifelong supporter of Northampton Saints. He was known as a keen member of the Labour Party and had been awarded an MBE by the Queen for his dedication to the Civil Service.

A post-mortem examination into his death carried out at Leicester Royal Infirmary came back as "unascertained".
