One driver who drove into the roadside check point while on his mobile phone and not wearing a seat belt, has been charged and will face the courts.

One vehicle was found to have no valid MOT and a further two drivers had their vehicles seized after oversights by their employers meant they were driving company vehicles with no valid insurance, according to Northamptonshire Police. A third driver had his vehicle seized after his driving licence had been revoked after he failed to reapply for his licence after serving a disqualification period, making his insurance policy void.

Police say all five drivers have been reported for the offences and could now face further sanctions by the courts.

Four drivers were also stopped for having insecure loads. One was reported for the offence, while the others were given words of advice and the chance to secure their loads properly.

Finally, 22 drivers, who were not stopped at the roadside check point, instead received letters from the Safer Roads Team after they were caught speeding.

Neighbourhood Policing Officer, PC Kate Rideout said: “Everyone needs to play their part to help keep our roads safe and one of the most basic, but essential, ways to do this is to ensure both you and your vehicle are fit for the road.

“Some of these issues may seem trivial to some, however it only takes one poorly maintained vehicle or a momentary lapse of concentration for a driver to be involved in a collision, which can result in potentially devastating consequences.”
