Man's head repeatedly hit on pavement during violent brawl outside Northampton town centre pub

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses after a brawl in Northampton's Market Square earlier this month.

The victim suffered a cut lip and bruising to after having his head smacked against the pavement during the punch-up involving three men and a woman outside The Auctioneers pub.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "A man who had become involved in an argument with a woman was then punched by another man, causing him to fall to the ground.

"As he lay on the floor, the offender straddled him and grabbed him and repeatedly hit his head on the pavement. A third man intervened and pulled the offender off him but the woman then knocked his phone off the table and stamped on it, causing the case to break.

"The male offender is described as white, in his mid-40s, of a large build and with short hair. He was wearing a blue jacket, a grey jumper and jeans.

"The woman was also white and in her mid-40s. She was about 5ft 6in with black hair and was wearing black leather trousers, black leather jacket and high-heeled shoes.

"This incident happened between 9.30pm and 10pm on Wednesday March 11, We are asking anyone with information or who may have witnessed this incident to call us on 101 quoting reference number 20000142149."
