Man released under investigation after David Brickwood murder arrest

The suspect arrested over the murder of Abington scrap metal merchant David Brickwood has been released under investigation.

He was a 32-year-old man from East London who was arrested in connection with the murder on Tuesday morning (November 3).Mr Brickwood had lived in the Abington area for more than 50 years and was well known for running a scrap metal business.

Police were called out Mr Brickwood's home, in Lindsay Avenue, Abington, shortly after 2am on Saturday, September 26, 2015.

An unknown number of raiders had pushed open a downstairs window before bursting into the pensioner’s bedroom and delivering a brutal assault while he was in bed.

The five-year investigation has included a number of appeals by Northamptonshire Police who also worked with the BBC’s Crimewatch.

Cameron St Rose, 26, of Forest Gate, London, is the only person to have been charged with murder and burglary in connection with the death of Mr Brickwood.

St Rose's trial date has been changed to April 2021 at Birmingham Crown Court, a spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police confirmed to the Chronicle & Echo today.
