A man, aged 31, has been arrested on suspicion of attacking two women in Northampton, smashing up a house and spitting at a police officer.

Northamptonshire Police said the incident started at about 2.10pm on Sunday (August 7) in Rothersthorpe Road, Far Cotton.

A police spokeswoman said officers were called to reports of a man attacking two women inside a house and causing criminal damage in the building.

The spokeswoman said the women managed to escape. A man was arrested by police officers.

According to locals, multiple police cars were called to the scene.

The man arrested remains in police custody at this time, the spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police told this newspaper.
