Man holds knife to staff and orders them to open the till at busy Northampton shop

A man armed with a knife threatened staff at a convenience store and stole money from the till.

The incident happened in broad daylight at the Tesco Express in Wellingborough Road closest to the town centre on Sunday (August 30).

Armed with a blade, the offender ordered staff to open the till and hand over money, which they did to the sum of around £250.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to help trace the man.

A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police said: “At about 2.20pm, a man walked into the store and threatened staff with a knife in order to get them to open the till and give him money, which they did.

“The suspect is described as a white man in his mid-30s, of medium build, about 5ft 10in. He had short dark hair, a short beard and a black eye.

“There were a few members of the public about at the time so if they could come forward that would be great.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information should call police on 101.
