Man fined thousands of pounds after playing 'excessive and intrusive loud music' at home in quiet Northamptonshire village
A man has been fined thousands of pounds after playing “excessive and intrusive loud music” at his home in a quiet Northamptonshire village.
Oliver Page of Cherwell Banks, King’s Sutton, near Banbury, appeared at Wellingborough Magistrates’ Court on January 27, charged with failing to comply with an abatement notice, relating to noise.
Between May and September 2025, the 34-year-old failed to comply with the notice served by West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
According to WNC, the council first received complaints in January 2025 regarding “excessive and intrusive loud music” from the property. A community protection warning was initially issued, but the council says the noise continued and a notice was served. Despite formal action, further disturbances were reported, according to the council.

A spokesman for WNC said: “In July 2025, the council obtained and executed a warrant at the property. Several televisions and two speaker systems were seized in an attempt to prevent further disturbance to neighbours.
"However, new noise-amplifying equipment was acquired within 48 hours, and further breaches of the noise abatement notice occurred.
“Monitoring of loud music continued, and evidence gathered between May 2025 and September 2025 demonstrated repeated non-compliance with the requirements of the noise abatement notice.”
Councillor Andrew Last Cabinet Member for HR, Corporate and Regulatory Services at WNC added: “Everyone has the right to enjoy their home without unreasonable disturbance, and we will take action where nuisance continues.”
Page was fined £2,000, ordered to pay £3,000 in costs and an £800 victim surcharge, totalling £5,800.
Residents experiencing persistent noise issues can report concerns via the council’s website, to allow officers to investigate.
