Man appears in court for Northampton Tesco Express armed robbery also charged with handling a dangerous dog

Further charges relate to an incident 11 days after the alleged robbery

A man who has been charged with armed robbery and string of other offences has been remanded in custody after a court hearing.

Patrick Loftus appeared at Northampton Magistrates Court today (September 18), via video link from the Criminal Justice Centre, to face four charges, including two that relate to an armed robbery.

The 38-year-old allegedly stole more than £200 from Tesco Express on Wellingborough Road while in possession of an offensive weapon on August 30.

Loftus, of Aberdeen Terrace, St James, has also been charged with two offences relating to an incident that took place in St Andrew’s Road on September 10.

One charge relates to allegedly being the person in control of a dog, namely a Rottweiler, that was seriously out of control and injured another person.

Loftus also faces a charge, relating to the same incident, for allegedly wounding a victim with intent to cause them grievous bodily harm.

All four charges will be dealt with at Northampton Crown Court on October 21.

In the meantime, Loftus has been remanded in custody.
