Full closure order issued on flat in Northampton after partial order on whole block issued earlier this year

A full closure order has been issued for a flat in Northampton, after a partial closure order for the whole block was issued earlier this year.

The order for a property within St Stephens House, Spring Boroughs, was issued on Friday June 19, as part of ongoing work to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) in the area.

Since April 30, a partial closure order has been in place at St Stephens House, which stopped non-residents entering the building. Police say the order resulted in a “noticeable reduction” of ASB across the building. However, further reports identified ongoing issues linked to a single address, according to Northamptonshire Police.

Ben Frost, from the police force, said: "This is a really positive result for the residents of St Stephens House who have been affected by ongoing anti-social behaviour. While the partial closure order made a significant difference, it was clear further action was needed to address the issues linked to this specific property.”

The partial order was in put in place in response to issues including drug use, people urinating and defecating in communal areas, people passed out in walkways or stairs, and loud and aggressive behaviour.

According to West Northamptonshire Council, it was the first time a Partial Closure Order was put in place on an entire block of flats in Northamptonshire.
