Five arrests made during crackdown on drug crime ahead of Northampton Market Square reopening
A further five arrests have been made during a week focused on cracking down on drug-related offending ahead of the reopening of the Market Square in Northampton.
Operation Workforce is being run by the Northampton Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) to tackle the four key crime types of anti-social behaviour, retail crime, drugs and serious violence, in the newly revamped Market Square area.
Last week’s focus was on drug-related offending. Northamptonshire Police say officers made “five arrests and three stop searches, as well as using a community protection warning to help prevent problem behaviour”.
NPT Inspector Nicola Davis-Lyons said: “By tailoring our operation to specifically tackle the issues residents, businesses and shoppers told us mattered most to them, we’re helping to ensure the beautifully regenerated Market Square area remains somewhere people can feel safe in and proud of.”
The official reopening of the Market Square takes place this weekend (Saturday October 19 and Sunday October 20).
