It won’t be a happy New Year for this bunch of killers, rapists, child abusers, drug dealers, thugs and thieves, nor will it be for many years to come. All were jailed during 2022 and received some of the heaviest sentences handed down by judges at Northampton and other crown courts.

33. TYRRELL and RAHEEM RESTAL
The brothers were arrested during raids in Kingsthorpe Grove earlier this year, which netted drugs worth £124,000 — including some laced with a synthetic opioid called isotonitazene, which has been associated with a number of deaths in the county. Large sums of cash, mobile phones and designer goods were also seized as part of investigations into County Lines gangs. Tyrrell, 21, was sentenced to six years, six months in prison and 22-year-old Raheem to five years, eight months in October. Photo: Northamptonshire Police

34. ION COJAN
Cojan was sentenced to 15 years in November after he used a room rental website to lure in a woman before raping her. The Judge, Her Honour Adrienne Lucking, told the 37-year-old, of Worcester Close, Northampton “Your evidence at trial revealed your arrogance and misplaced sense of sexual entitlement” after he was found guilty. 35. SEAN DANIEL DOHERTY
The 29-year-old stole keys tried to outrun police after stealing keys to a red Nissan Qashqai from a house in Corby, finally colliding with a tree in Vian Way. Doherty ran off but was tracked down hiding in a nearby garden. He admitted burglary, dangerous driving, handling stolen goods and driving without insurance and otherwise in accordance with a licence at Northampton Crown Court and was sentenced to four years, nine months in November. Doherty was previously sentenced to seven years, two months in 2019 after admitting manslaughter of dad-of-two Tom Gravestock but released on licence after serving half the time. 36. ANTHONY LAKE
The brazen burglar was jailed for more than four years after being arrested strolling through Northampton town centre a few months after a break-in in December 2021. The 44-year-old, of St George’s Street, forced his way through a patio door in the early hours and stole a purse containing cash and bank cards before fleeing when the terrified occupants woke up and confronted him. He was found guilty of burglary and escaping lawful custody and sentenced to four years, four months in prison. Photo: Northamptonshire Police
