Daventry police have received reports of four purse thefts in Daventry town centre in the last 72 hours where elderly women are being targeted.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police said: “Keep your bag close to you and shut at all times. Be vigilant when using the cash points and banks. Secure your money before leaving banks and shops or when walking away from a cash point. Don’t hang your bag on the back of a shopping trolley.

“If you are using a mobility scooter, do not leave your bag in the front basket. If you are in a cafe, do not leave your purse on the table or your bag on the back of a chair. Be mindful of being followed.”

Officers are urging people to share this information with elderly relatives and friends, who might not see this online or on social media.

Police are currently out on patrol around Daventry town centre giving advice to the elderly and making the shops and banks aware of what is going on.
