A 71-year-old Northampton man has pleaded guilty to possessing hundreds of indecent images of children.

Peter Butt, of Edgehill Road, has admitted to downloading over 400 of the abusive images between 2014 and 2017.

At a hearing at Northampton Crown Court yesterday (May 11), a judge heard that 101 of the pictures were classed as "category A", the most serious rating available for such images under UK law.

He also pleaded guilty to distributing at least one of the images to another.

The 71-year-old will be sentenced in June .
