A Northampton man’s drunken attack on a row of parked cars on New Year’s Day landed him a hefty court bill.

Ion Munteanu, aged 33, admitted causing criminal damage by kicking a Toyota Auris and a Toyota Verso at around 8pm in Palmerston Road.

Munteanu, of Billing Road in the town, also pleaded guilty to using threatening or abusive words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress.

Northampton magistrates fined him £200 for each charge and ordered him to pay £50 compensation to two vehicle owners, plus a further £145 in prosecution costs and a surcharge to fund victim services.

He also admitted attempting to damage a nearby Vauxhall Astra but court documents showed another charge of causing criminal damage to a Vauxhall Adam was withdrawn.
